Always wanted to be Tow Truck Operator?!?!

To become a tow truck driver, you must be at least 18 years old, hold a valid driver's license with a clean record, and hopefully pass a background check and drug test.

Many companies will train on job, and have you ride with an experienced Rig Operator til you understand how to really hook'em.

 Operating larger wreckers or transport configurations over 26,000 lbs requires a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration compliant Commercial Driver's License (Class B or Class A CDL) 

Each rig might require different endorsements and training.

 Upfront Capital Costs

• Tow Truck: $30,000 to $70,000 for a used light-duty wheel-lift or rollback truck 
• Commercial Insurance: $2,000 to $5,000 initial down payment or reserve (policies run $6,000 to $15,000+ annually depending on location and driving record).
• Licensing, Permits & Legal: $500 to $2,500 for LLC formation, USDOT/MC numbers, local permits, and state compliance.
• Towing Equipment & Gear: $2,000 to $5,000 for straps, chains, winches, tow dollies, safety cones, and high-visibility gear.
